Ristine - Harley Greenwood

Although it is believed that Dr. Harber Greenwood (called Harley) Ristine did not practice here, he was a native of Crawfordsville and brother to Dr. Warren Ristine.  H.G. was born May 21, 1838, to Ben Taylor Ristine and Rhoda FLorinda Humphrey.  .  He was a graduate of Wabash College, class of 1861.  During the Civil War, he served in Co. K. 86th Indiana infantry, enrolling on the 11th day of August and discharged as a St. 12 Feb 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.  After the war, he graduated from Rush Medical College, with graduate work done at Bellevue, NY.  He was associated with his Uncle Henry RIstine of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and his cousin, Dr. John M. Ristine of the same place.  Later, he moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa where he practiced for over 40 years. Although he and his wife,   Carrie Wells, had two children, Woolsey Welles died young, only Albert growing to adulthood.  Kittie (Carrie) died Dec 26, 1881) when Albert was just a child and Dr. Ristine then married Eliza P. Lemon (1854-1923) from Connecticut.  They had two children: Theodore and Kittie, assumedly the latter named for his first wife.  Dr. Ristine was disstrict surgeon of the Illinois Central Railway and of the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railway for more than 30 years. He was much respected in the medical field.

Note:  Harley passed away 30 January 1917 and was buried on the 7th of February in Oakland Cemetery in Ft. Dodge, Webster County, Iowa.  According to findagrave.com, he was also married to Carrie S. Welles who was born Jan 2, 1851 and died Dec 26, 1881.  Her son, Woolsey Welles Ristne was born Oct 12, 1881 and passed away 12 days and a year later.
